LiveWell Lawrence and WorkWell Kansas are new endeavors which the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority is now participating in and membership is represented by LDCHA Resident Services Office employee Ashley Woolsey.  The focus of LiveWell Lawrence is to promote a community health initiative, funded by the Kansas Health Foundation.  WorkWell Lawrence is a grantee of LiveWell Lawrence and the teams are charged with designing and implementing a “results-oriented” community wellness initiative aimed at supporting employer efforts to promote healthier eating and increased physical activity through people, programs, and policies.  The strategy is to “assure opportunities for and encourage healthy eating and active living at work.”  Both programs fall under the umbrella of WorkWell KS which is a state-wide initiative that will provide leadership and resources for businesses and organizations to support worksite health.  This initiative is an opportunity to engage and connect businesses, leaders, and organizations throughout Kansas around worksite wellness.  To learn more about the programs, visit the websites listed below.

Biennial Inspections

In 2014, LDCHA will be implementing a biennial inspection process.  This program is designed to recognize and reward Section 8 properties that are well maintained.  Units which have passed HQS on the first inspection for two consecutive years will be inspected every other year instead of annually.

Biennial inspections will reduce the time allocated for inspection of units that have a consistently good maintenance record and will allow for a strategic focus on properties that have a history of failing inspections.

Landlord On-Site Self Certification

Also in 2014, LDCHA will expand the Landlord On-Site Self Certification process. This program will permit owners/owner’s agents to self-report on minor deficiencies in lieu of a re-inspection. The deficiencies cannot be life threatening and/or present any safety hazards.

This program will reduce the time allocated to re-inspect units with non-life threatening non-safety hazards deficiencies. Reducing the number of annual re-inspections will enable LDCHA HQS Inspectors to concentrate resources on more marginal and higher-risk units.

For questions on how these two new programs will be implemented, please contact Jerrad Lewis at 842-8110 ext 2252 or
