Application Process

You turned in an application - What happens now?

The LDCHA accepts only complete applications.

  • We will go over your application and let you know if we can accept it for processing. If the application is not complete, a list of needed information will be sent to you. You may be asked to meet with the Admission Specialist or you may be asked to bring or send in missing information. If you do not complete you application within 10-15 days, your application will be closed and you will need to reapply.

The LDCHA will contact you within 10 days.
  • Let us know if your contact information changes. People who cannot be contacted will have their applications closed and will be taken off the waiting list.

The LDCHA will verify all information.
  • Once the application is complete, we will date it as accepted start collecting eligibility information.

The LDCHA will place eligible applicants on the General Housing, Senior Housing or Transitional Housing Waiting Lists (see RENT ASSISTANCE).
  • All applications are reviewed by a committee of LDCHA staff who determine waiting list eligibility (see ELIGIBILITY DETERMINATIONS).

The LDCHA will notify you of eligibility in about 30 days after processing starts.
  • You will get a letter outlining the eligibility determination. If you are not eligible, the LDCHA will offer you an administrative review of the decision. You will have 10 days to ask for an administrative review. Your request must be in writing. If you are still found ineligible you will be granted the opportunity to request a hearing.

The LDCHA will offer housing to eligible applicants on the waiting list in order of the date and time the application was accepted for processing.
  • It could be 6 to 9 months before you get a housing offer. You could be offered a public housing rental unit or a voucher to search for a private market rental, depending on what is available when your name is at the top of the waiting list. Even if you do not want the unit first offered, you must respond to the offer to stay on the waiting list.
