Fact Sheet for e-Housing Connection
What is the e-Housing Connection?
The e-Housing Connection is an informational listserv of landlords generated and maintained by the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority to help service providers representing homeless families or individuals find emergency temporary housing. A contact between a service provider and a landlord is made by describing a family in need to landlords willing to receive e-mails from the Connection.
Who is eligible for the e-Housing Connection?
The e-Housing Connection is targeted to homeless individuals and families who are in need of emergency housing for whom a homeless shelter is not suitable. The temporary housing program places no eligibility or suitability criteria on the individual or family who may receive a temporary housing assignment through the Connection. It is directed at individuals and families who do not presently have permanent housing but who, with stabilization through case management and support services, will be able to secure permanent housing in three-to-six months and successfully maintain that housing.
Who is NOT eligible for the e-Housing Connection?
This program does not serve the chronically homeless population. Other programming for the chronically homeless is available through the Lawrence-Douglas County Housing Authority.
The federal definition of a chronically homeless person is "an unaccompanied homeless individual with a disabling condition who has either been continuously homeless for a year or more, or has had at least four episodes of homelessness in the past three years." Other housing programs are available for the chronically homeless through the LDCHA.
How do I get housing through the e-Housing Connection?
A homeless individual or family may not access the Connection directly. Access is through a local support service agency after the homeless individual or family becomes a client of the agency and enters into a written support service and case management plan.
Who can ACCESS the e-Housing Connection?
The gateway to the Housing Connection is through participating local support and social service agencies on behalf of their homeless client. A homeless individual or family, or anyone acting on their behalf, other than a participating agency, may not access the Housing Connection directly. Only those local agencies that have recognized case management services as a part of their human services program may be a participating agency with Rights to access the Connection.
